In Sandel’s writing I believe two things should not be for sale are purchasing the ability to drive in the carpool lane and the ability to pay for your child to have admission to a prestigious university. It is wrong for people to buy their way into anything. People who drive in the carpool lane should have the right to drive in their own lane because they are driving other people to save the planet and not use as many fossil fuels. This shows that in today’s society money can buy anything. People buying admission to a prestigious university is wrong as well because acceptance into college is a reflection of the work that the child has done and it’s a measure of success of that child. If something like this can be bought through a parent’s riches than that speaks volumes about our society. The measure of one’s academic ability is not something that should has a price tag. The only fair way to measure academic ability is with scholarships. A scholarship is a fair way for colleges so asses the price of a child’s work and success.
